  • DESCRIPTIONS & INFORMATION

In the heart of the Chartreuse massif, halfway between Grenoble and Chambéry, the Cascade de l'Alloix canyon will keep you cool even in the height of summer! The waterfalls follow on from each other in a green, rural setting, with no major commitment required. We'll take the time to teach you how to abseil before you reach the 45m vertical drop! Canyoning in Isère is the perfect way to cool off in the middle of summer.

For a multi-activity day, the Alloix canyon can easily be combined with the Via Ferrata at St Vincent de Mercuze (the "Rocher de l'Envers"), which even crosses the canyon several times!

You can also adapt the route for younger or less adventurous climbers by avoiding the first two big waterfalls. Ideal for discovering and learning to abseil in the water.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1If I've never done abseiling, can I do the Alloix canyon?
Yes, there's no problem. We'll teach you how to abseil on your own from the very first waterfall! On the other hand, vertigo is of course a no-no.
2What is the longest waterfall to abseil down?
The biggest waterfall is 45m. It's the famous “Cascade de l'Alloix”, visible on foot from the footbridges below.
    3No jumps or slides?
There may be "one or two" jumps (or slides) depending on the water flow in certain years, but you shouldn't go to the Alloix canyon for that.
4When is the best time to go canyoning on the Alloix?
Spring is the best in terms of flow. From mid-June there isn't much water, or even none at all in midsummer.
5Can I do the Alloix canyon + the Via Ferrata at St Vincent de Mercuze in one day?
It's a great day out as both are in the same place. The Via Ferrata crosses several times the river and the beautiful waterfalls that you descend by canyoning.

    A WORD FROM THE GUIDES

    XAVIER
The Alloix is a predominantly vertical canyon. You shouldn't go there to do jumps and slides in all directions, but rather to rub shoulders with these beautiful waterfalls that you can see again and again from the via ferrata at St Vincent de Mercuze. Special mention for the calm atmosphere and wild setting.
    CHARLIE
When I was a child, I used to walk from home to bathe in the pools of this canyon! So it's still with great emotion that I lead groups through this technical canyon with its first impressive waterfalls.
